Contractors and journeymen must complete 12 hours of continuing education every 36 months to renew licenses, effective January 1, 2026.

Six of the 12 required hours must cover Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission codes and revisions; the remaining six hours may cover electrical theory, safety, wiring methods, alternative energy systems, or other approved trade subjects.

Apprentices must complete 3 hours of continuing education annually to re-register, with material covering OUBCC codes, electrical industry regulations, NFPA 70E electrical safety standards, and other approved topics.

Continuing education courses must be approved in advance by the Committee of Electrical Examiners, with exceptions allowed for emergency substitute instructors upon written notice within 7 days.

Student apprentices enrolled in approved courses are exempt from continuing education requirements.

The act becomes effective November 1, 2025, with license renewal requirements taking effect January 1, 2026.
