HB 2185 Summary

• Department of Human Services must exercise due diligence to ensure law enforcement investigates alleged crimes (pursuant to Oklahoma Statutes Sections 1111 or 1123) committed by DHS employees or contractors against children in DHS custody.

• Office of Juvenile Affairs must exercise due diligence to ensure law enforcement investigates alleged crimes committed by OJA employees or contractors against children in OJA custody.

• Counties, municipalities, and political subdivisions must exercise due diligence to ensure law enforcement investigates alleged crimes committed by their employees or contractors against children in their custody.

• All three entities must follow up with law enforcement every 30 days after the initial report until the case is resolved or the child is no longer in custody, and document all actions in the child's file.

• The act becomes effective November 1, 2025.
