HB 2269 Summary

• School districts shall waive the Oklahoma History requirement (1/2 unit) for military family students who transition from another state and have completed a similar state history class or citizenship skills course.

• School districts may waive Oklahoma History if a military family student completes an alternative project or paper demonstrating competencies in Oklahoma history or United States government.

• Military family students may substitute coursework for course credit at school district discretion.

• Military family students who have earned extra credits from Department of Defense schools or from states with higher graduation requirements shall only need to complete the minimum graduation units required by Oklahoma.

• Effective date is July 1, 2025, with an emergency declaration for immediate enactment.
