Physician assistants with 6,240+ hours of postgraduate clinical practice experience are exempted from mandatory supervision by a delegating physician and may practice independently after reporting those hours to the State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.

Physician assistants not meeting the 6,240-hour threshold must continue practicing under a delegating physician with a practice agreement, which must be filed with the Board within 10 business days of execution at no fee.

The Physician Assistant Committee membership increases from 7 to 9 members, with physician assistant members increasing from 3 to 5, and the quorum requirement rises from 4 to 5 members.

Physician assistants not practicing under a practice agreement may prescribe Schedule III-V controlled substances independently; those under practice agreements may prescribe Schedule II-V substances as delegated by the physician, with Schedule II prescriptions requiring a written protocol.

Physician assistants practicing without a practice agreement must carry malpractice insurance of at least $1 million per occurrence and $3 million aggregate annually, or demonstrate equivalent financial responsibility.
