HB 2819 Summary

• Amends Section 1277 of Title 21 of the Oklahoma Statutes regarding unlawful firearm carry to authorize carrying firearms on certain designated properties including parking areas, streets, parks, and public recreational areas.

• Allows individuals to openly carry handguns on municipally designated zoos or parks managed by public trusts or nonprofit entities only with permission from the property owner or manager.

• Permits licensed individuals to carry concealed or unconcealed firearms on property set aside for vehicle parking by governmental authorities and on public property designated as streets, plazas, sidewalks, alleys, parks, recreational areas, wildlife refuges, and fairgrounds.

• Authorizes school districts to adopt policies allowing designated school personnel with armed security guard licenses or reserve peace officer certifications to carry handguns on school property.

• Establishes that violations of restrictions on carrying firearms in courthouses or schools are misdemeanors punishable by fines up to $250, while violations of other restrictions may result in denial of entrance or removal from property.

• Takes effect November 1, 2025.
