Justices of the Supreme Court, Judges of the Court of Criminal Appeals or Court of Civil Appeals, and district or associate district court judges must retire when reaching 75 years of age.

Judges who reach 75 during their current term may complete that term if they choose to do so.

Retiring judges receive retirement benefits as provided by law.

Judges who were already 75 years old on or before the effective date must retire on November 1, 2025, with the option to complete their current term if enacted during that term.

No person who has reached 75 years of age prior to or on the date of election or appointment is eligible for election, retention, or appointment to any appellate or district court.
