Operators of gas wells idle for 20+ years must reduce idle wells by 25% by July 1, 2028, by 50% by July 1, 2031, and plug or produce from all remaining idle wells by July 1, 2035

Gas wells idle for less than 20 years must be plugged or returned to production within 10 years of the act's effective date

"Idle gas well" defined as a gas well with no commercial production (no natural gas sales) for the preceding 10 years and no reasonable case for future use

Exceptions may be granted by the Corporation Commission for wells with demonstrated future use, including production, injection, carbon storage, or geothermal energy generation

Plugging deadlines remain in effect regardless of sale, lease, or transfer of the idle well to a new operator
