SB 216 Summary

• Extends expiration dates of driver licenses for persons whose valid licenses expired within three (3) years during imprisonment in the Department of Corrections custody for six (6) months after release, with Service Oklahoma mailing replacement licenses to addresses provided by individuals.

• Requires Service Oklahoma and the Department of Corrections to enter into a data-sharing agreement to facilitate exchange of necessary data and authorizes both agencies to promulgate rules and procedures to implement these provisions.

• Eliminates the "on or after November 1, 2008" language requirement for certain DUI-related reinstatement fees and clarifies that Service Oklahoma shall assess a single reinstatement fee rather than multiple cumulative fees for persons with multiple suspensions or revocations.

• Requires the Department of Corrections to provide inmates with relevant documentation to obtain a provisional driver license before release from custody and authorizes Service Oklahoma to enter into provisional license agreements with suspended or revoked drivers subject to specified driving restrictions and payment requirements.

• Amends the Sarah Stitt Act to change coordination responsibility from the Department of Public Safety to Service Oklahoma for providing REAL ID Noncompliant Identification Cards to inmates upon discharge and specifies that the Department of Corrections shall identify inmates' identification status within nine (9) months prior to release.
