Senate Bill 369 Summary

• Amends Oklahoma law (21 O.S. 2021, Section 650) regarding aggravated assault and battery upon peace officers to include corrections personnel and state/federal peace officers enforcing state laws.

• Establishes two felony offenses with different penalties: assault during officer duties (up to life imprisonment and/or $1,000 fine) and assault resulting in maiming (5 years to life imprisonment and/or $5,000 fine).

• Defines aggravated assault and battery upon law officers to include physical contact in attempting to gain control of a firearm or strangulation, with "strangulation" defined per Section 644(J) of Oklahoma statutes.

• Makes this law cumulative with other existing assault and battery statutes rather than superseding them.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2025.
