Municipal governing bodies and zoning commissions in Oklahoma municipalities with populations under 300,000 are prohibited from approving proposed homeless shelters within 3,000 feet of any school or school property.

Homeless shelters properly zoned and approved before this law's effective date may continue operating and cannot be relocated or closed, even if a school is later established within 3,000 feet.

Any change of use from a homeless shelter at a previously approved location subjects that location to the 3,000-foot school distance requirement.

Domestic violence shelters, youth shelters, and homeless shelters operated within places of worship are exempt from the 3,000-foot restriction.

The law takes effect immediately upon passage and approval as an emergency measure.
