All county election board elections must be scheduled on Tuesdays only.

Regular and special elections to fill elective offices may be held on the second Tuesday of February, first Tuesday of April, dates of regularly scheduled state/federal elections in even-numbered years, the third Tuesday of June in any year, the fourth Tuesday of August in any year, and the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November in any year.

Elections for purposes other than filling elective offices in odd-numbered years may be held on specified dates in January through November, with municipalities over 250,000 population also able to hold elections the second Tuesday of December.

Governor-called special elections are limited to specified dates, with additional dates permitted for vacancies in U.S. Representative, State Senator, or State Representative offices, or during declared national or state emergencies.

Provisions apply to elections held after January 1, 2026, and the act becomes effective November 1, 2025.
