Senate Bill 703 Summary

• Allows holders of Oklahoma Standard Teaching Certificates to satisfy renewal requirements by completing micro-credentials in addition to existing options of staff development programs, conferences, and seminars.

• Micro-credentials must be recognized for staff development credit by a public school district in Oklahoma at the time the teacher completes them.

• Directs the State Department of Education, in collaboration with the Office of Educational Quality and Accountability, to identify which micro-credentials may fulfill renewal requirements.

• Permits micro-credentials to be provided by institutions within The Oklahoma State System of Higher Education and by providers and digital learning platforms approved by the Department.

• Becomes effective July 1, 2025, with an emergency clause allowing immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
