SB 768 Summary

• Authorizes licensed first responders (firefighters and licensed emergency medical personnel) to carry handguns while performing official duties on public or private property, provided they possess a valid handgun license under the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act.

• Excludes voluntary first responders from the handgun carrying authorization.

• Requires political subdivisions to enter into intergovernmental cooperative agreements with federally recognized Indian tribes before first responders carry handguns on tribal trust land.

• Allows first responders to openly carry handguns onto school property and college/university property when acting in the course and scope of employment with a valid handgun license.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2025.
