School district boards of education and charter school governing bodies must request national criminal history record checks through the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) for volunteers before they can volunteer at school sites, beginning with the 2025-2026 school year

OSBI will collect fingerprints from volunteers and charge a search fee not exceeding $50 or the actual cost of the search, whichever is less, with fees deposited into the OSBI Revolving Fund

School districts and charter schools may choose to reimburse volunteers for the cost of the background check

Each school district and charter school must publish notice on its website about the background check requirement and whether reimbursement is available

Volunteers who meet existing exemption criteria under Section 5-142(F) of Title 70 are not required to undergo the national criminal history record check
