SB 902 Summary

• Requires plaintiffs who file motions to vacate or dismiss protective orders to present a court-approved safety plan to the judge before dismissal can be granted.

• Safety plans must include code words for alerts, support contacts, safe locations, contact avoidance strategies, emergency items list, and domestic violence shelter information, but shall remain confidential and not be shared with the defendant.

• Court may vacate or dismiss a protective order only after reviewing the plaintiff's safety plan for adequacy.

• Allows plaintiffs or victims to be accompanied by a victim support person at court proceedings who may provide comfort and support but cannot make legal arguments.

• Effective date: November 1, 2025.
