Creates new criminal penalties for assault, battery, or assault and battery against municipal, county, or state officials performing their lawful duties

Assault against such officials is classified as a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 1 year in county jail, a fine up to $1,000, or both

Battery or assault and battery against such officials is classified as a felony, punishable by up to 5 years in state prison, a fine up to $5,000, or both

"Official" is defined to include code enforcement, zoning, fire, police, health, safety, and building officials, their deputies, and any other persons designated by law to investigate or enforce regulations
