Students entering 8th grade in the 2026-2027 school year must earn one unit of State Department of Education-approved computer science or one unit of an industry-aligned Career and Technical Education course covering computer science foundations to graduate from an Oklahoma public high school

Computer science courses may count toward fulfilling graduation requirements in multiple areas, including world language/computer technology requirements, mathematics, science, or computer education requirements depending on the curriculum track

One-year, full-time career and technology programs (three hours daily) leading to an industry credential/certificate or college credit can satisfy the computer science requirement as an alternative to traditional computer science courses

State Department of Education must promulgate rules requiring Oklahoma Academic Standards for Computer Science at all grade levels to include instruction on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), including understanding what AI is and how it works

Effective date is July 1, 2025, with an emergency clause for immediate implementation upon passage and approval
