Fire departments in Oklahoma are prohibited from employing any person as a firefighter who has been found guilty, pled guilty, or pled nolo contendere to any offense requiring registration under the Sex Offenders Registration Act, including deferred judgments

"Firefighter" is defined to include both volunteer firefighters and permanent salaried professional members of any fire department in Oklahoma

Violations of the employment prohibition constitute a misdemeanor upon conviction

The bill amends existing law (57 O.S. 2021, Section 589) that already prohibits registered sex offenders from working with children or on school premises and prohibits law enforcement agencies from employing such persons as peace officers
