Extends 6 weeks of paid maternity leave to eligible education employees following the adoption of a child under 4 years of age, in addition to the existing benefit for birth of a child

Eligible employees include full-time public school district employees, technology center instructors, State Department of Rehabilitation Services teachers, Department of Corrections teachers, and Office of Juvenile Affairs teachers who have worked at least 1,250 hours in the preceding 12 months

Allows employees to use up to 6 weeks of accrued sick leave to extend maternity leave for recovery from childbirth, bonding with a newborn or infant, or caring for a newborn or infant without requiring additional employer approval

Sick leave extension may exceed 6 weeks if a licensed medical professional certifies medical necessity, allowing up to 12 weeks total FMLA leave

Effective date is November 1, 2026
