Students in grades 3-5 who assault or attempt to cause bodily injury to school employees or volunteers face a three-day in-school suspension for first offense, seven-day out-of-school suspension for second offense, and expulsion for third offense within a school year

Students in grades 6-12 who assault school employees or volunteers face suspension for the remainder of the current semester plus the next consecutive semester

District superintendents may modify suspension terms on a case-by-case basis for both grade-level categories

Schools must consider alternative in-school placement options before issuing out-of-school suspensions, including alternative school settings, classroom reassignment, or in-school detention

Effective date is July 1, 2026, with an emergency clause allowing immediate implementation upon passage and approval
