Physician assistants with 6,240+ hours of postgraduate clinical practice experience who report those hours to the State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision may practice independently without supervision from a delegating physician

Physician assistants practicing independently may prescribe medications including controlled substances in Schedules III-V, while those under practice agreements may prescribe Schedules II-V as delegated by their supervising physician

Physician assistants not practicing under a practice agreement must carry malpractice insurance of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence and $3,000,000 aggregate per year

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and physician assistants employed by federal agencies with any malpractice coverage, or by state agencies covered under the Governmental Tort Claims Act, are deemed compliant with insurance requirements for that employment
