Expands medicolegal investigation requirements from sudden infant deaths only to include sudden deaths of children under 20 years old (SDY) and sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS) deaths at any age

Requires medical examiners to document any immunizations or emergency countermeasures administered within 90 days before death and report cases to the CDC's SUID and SDY Case Registry

Investigations must include autopsy if necessary, microscopic and toxicology studies, review of immunization and medical records, and interviews with parents, guardians, or caregivers

Parents or legal guardians must be notified before investigations and may refuse consent to all or part of an investigation, unless a crime is suspected or the death is otherwise required by law to be investigated
