First-time protective order violations remain a misdemeanor punishable by up to $1,000 fine and 6 months to 1 year county jail imprisonment

Protective order violations causing physical injury or impairment upgraded from misdemeanor to Class D1 felony with up to 3 years in Department of Corrections custody (previously 20 days to 1 year in county jail) and up to $5,000 fine

Second or subsequent violations causing physical injury carry 1-5 years imprisonment and fines of $3,000-$10,000

Minimum sentences for repeat offenses and injury-causing violations cannot be suspended, deferred, or subject to probation
