Cities with populations over 65,000 must operate a Municipal Criminal Court of Record for handling violations of municipal ordinances

Maximum general fine increased from $1,200 to $1,500, and maximum imprisonment increased from 6 months to 1 year for municipal criminal court of record cases

Defendants are entitled to a jury trial when penalties exceed $500 in fines or include possible imprisonment, unless waived

Traffic violations (excluding DUI/drug offenses) retain separate penalty limits of up to $1,250 fine and 90 days imprisonment
