Service Oklahoma may check National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data before issuing or renewing vehicle registrations to identify vehicles with open safety recalls

Vehicle owners with open recalls may receive written notice at registration or with renewal mailings, including a description of each recall and information that repairs are available at no cost through authorized dealers

"Open recall" excludes recalls related only to labeling/owner's manual defects or recalls where the remedy is vehicle repurchase or financial compensation

Manufacturer and dealer liability for recall repairs remains unchanged under existing law

Service Oklahoma employees are protected from liability for acts or omissions related to recall notices, except in cases of gross negligence; effective November 1, 2025
