Director of Agriculture must employ an organic policy special assistant to coordinate organic agriculture initiatives across the department

Special assistant will track national trends, policies, and regulatory changes affecting production, marketing, and certification of organic agricultural products

Position responsibilities include facilitating trade in organic products, with emphasis on trade relationships with countries that are net producers of organic goods

Special assistant will work with other state agencies to address data gaps related to organic agricultural products and support statewide post-harvest handling and processing infrastructure

Role includes integrating policies that encourage organic practices into all relevant Department of Agriculture programs
