Failure to comply with Oregon's compulsory school attendance requirements becomes a Class C violation punishable by a maximum fine of $500

Eight unexcused half-day absences in any four-week period constitutes irregular attendance triggering enforcement procedures

School districts must provide written notification to parents/guardians in their native language before issuing citations, explaining attendance requirements and that non-compliance is a violation

Parents/guardians and students must attend both a conference with a designated official and a meeting with school and community representatives to address attendance issues before citations can be issued

Courts must forward abstracts of conviction for attendance violations to the Oregon Department of Education, with fine revenue split between the school district and the state/county/city depending on court jurisdiction

Effective July 1, 2025 as an emergency measure
