Federally recognized Indian tribes in Oregon may submit public charter school proposals directly to the State Board of Education, bypassing local school district boards

Tribal-sponsored charter schools are exempt from requirements to establish as a nonprofit organization and apply for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status

Each tribe is limited to one public charter school sponsored by the State Board of Education under this provision

Proposed tribal charter schools must be located on the tribe's reservation or within a school district enrolling tribal members, and tribes must provide notice to the affected school district

The State Board of Education must establish rules for proposal requirements, review processes, and timelines for tribal charter school applications
