District attorneys may charge defendants a fee before providing discovery materials, with the fee reasonably calculated to reimburse costs

Allowable costs for fee calculation include staff time spent reviewing, redacting, compiling, and formatting discovery materials

Physical materials costs such as paper documents, photographs, audio/video recordings, compact discs, flash drives, and hard drives may be included in the fee

Overhead costs including equipment wear and tear and building maintenance may also factor into the fee calculation
