Boat operators are prohibited from carrying children under 16 years of age unless the child is wearing a properly sized and secured personal flotation device, with violations punishable by a maximum fine of $250

Children under 16 are prohibited from using floating items (beach toys, inner tubes, buoyant foam) outside of marked swimming areas unless wearing a properly sized life jacket, with a presumptive fine of $25

For violations involving children 11 and younger, citations must be issued to the parent, guardian, or responsible adult rather than the child; for children 12-15, citations may be issued to either party but not both

First-time offenders may avoid paying fines by proving to the court they possess a properly sized personal flotation device

Takes effect on the 91st day following adjournment of the 2025 regular legislative session
