Commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB) at the University of Oregon, which celebrated its centennial in August 2024

OIMB was established in 1924 as summer field courses at Sunset Bay and became a permanent marine laboratory in 1931 on 100 acres of the Coos Head Military Reserve in Charleston, Oregon

The institute now has more than 20 cutting-edge buildings, operates a fleet of research vessels, and established the first marine biology major in the Pacific Northwest in 2005, which has grown to nearly 400 students

OIMB's discovery that invasive species are transported in cargo ship ballast water led to the establishment of regulations and agencies in maritime nations worldwide

The resolution congratulates the University of Oregon and its alumni on a century of leadership in marine research and service to Oregon, the United States, and all maritime nations
