School entities may contract with vendors to lease, purchase, install, operate, or maintain firearm detection technology, subject to Pennsylvania Department of Education approval

Detection systems must utilize existing school security cameras or drones to monitor for firearms brandished on school property or school buses

Technology must have automatic alert capability to notify school personnel and first responders with minimal human oversight when a firearm is detected

Systems must qualify as "qualified anti-terrorism technology" under federal law (6 U.S.C.) and must be developed entirely in the United States without third-party or open-source data

Vendors may manage the technology through continuously monitored operations centers staffed by trained firearms detection analysts; effective 60 days after enactment
