School entities meeting tier 1 baseline physical security criteria must assign at least one armed guard to each school building within one year of the act's effective date

Schools must designate specific entry and exit points, with all other exterior doors marked as emergency exits only and equipped with audible alarms

Armed guards must be present during all school hours and extracurricular activities held in the building

Qualified guards include those employed by schools or approved third-party vendors who hold current firearm certification under the Lethal Weapons Training Act, Retired Law Enforcement Identification Act, or sheriff/municipal police training programs

Applies to public school districts, charter schools, intermediate units, career and technical schools, and approved private schools participating in the School Safety and Security Grant Program
