More than 20.9 million Americans are currently recovering from substance use disorders; 4,719 Pennsylvanians died from drug overdoses in 2023, with 3,285 deaths reported for 2024

Pennsylvania has approximately 400 licensed recovery houses operating under regulations established by Act 59 of 2017, which directed the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs to license facilities receiving public funding or referrals

National Recovery Month has been observed annually in September since 1989

Encourages all Pennsylvanians to recognize those in recovery and provide resources to support long-term recovery efforts
