Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder affecting approximately 1 in 1,000 children, where the brain has difficulty planning movements needed for speech

Children with CAS require early, intensive speech therapy often for many years; without intervention, they face high risk for secondary impacts in reading, writing, spelling, and future employment opportunities

Treatment options include speech therapy, sign language, and augmentative communication systems

Encourages all Pennsylvania residents to work within their communities to increase awareness and understanding of childhood apraxia of speech
