Health care providers and practitioners must screen all new patients for veteran status before providing consultation or treatment

Screening requires asking patients whether they have served in any branch of the U.S. military, armed forces, or uniformed services, including Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy, Space Force, National Guard, Reserves, U.S. Public Health Service, and NOAA

Providers cannot deny care to patients who refuse to answer the veteran status question

Screening requirement does not apply in emergency or life-threatening situations

Act takes effect 180 days after enactment and amends the Health Care Facilities Act of 1979
