January 27 marks the anniversary of the 1945 liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp by Soviet soldiers, who freed more than 6,000 prisoners

Acknowledges the Holocaust resulted in an estimated 17 million deaths between 1933 and 1945, including approximately 6 million Jewish victims out of a pre-war European Jewish population of over 9 million

Recognizes that Nazi persecution targeted multiple groups including Jewish people, Romani, disabled individuals, homosexuals, Poles, Communists, Soviet citizens, Socialists, and Jehovah's Witnesses
