Pennsylvania Senate Resolution 59 honors the life and legacy of Senator Mary Jo White, who was born December 27, 1941, and represented the 21st Senatorial District

Senator White chaired the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee for twelve years and served on the Wild Resource Conservation Fund, Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee, and Environmental Quality Board

She became the first woman elected to Senate Republican Leadership, serving as Caucus Administrator from 2001 to 2006

Prior to her legislative career, she earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1967, worked as a public defender in Venango County, and served as Vice President for Environmental and Governmental Affairs at Quaker State Oil Corporation

The resolution expresses condolences to her surviving husband of 58 years, H. William White, Jr., their three children, and seven grandchildren
