Cranston City Council may establish a municipal housing division within its existing municipal court to handle housing-related violations

Housing division would have jurisdiction over violations of zoning ordinances, minimum housing standards, housing maintenance codes, subdivision of land regulations, and state building codes

Housing division may impose sentences up to 30 days in jail and fines up to $500, and may exercise equitable powers including ordering repairs, demolition, or receivership of properties

City council authorized to appoint a judge and clerk for the housing division, who may be the same individuals serving the municipal court

Aggrieved parties may appeal housing division decisions to superior court for a trial de novo within 20 days of the judgment
