Rhode Island House of Representatives expresses condolences on the passing of David R. Carlin, Jr., former Senate Majority Leader (1988-1990) who represented Newport, Jamestown, and Middletown in the State Senate from 1980 until his departure

Carlin served on the Newport School Committee from 1975-1980 and again from 2001-2009, and chaired the Newport Democratic Party City Committee from 1999-2005

Taught as a college professor at the Community College of Rhode Island for more than 40 years until retiring after his 80th birthday

Won the Democratic nomination for Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District in 1992 and authored seven books along with numerous newspaper and magazine articles

Secretary of State directed to transmit a certified copy of the resolution to Mrs. Maureen Carlin and family
