Redefines petty misdemeanor as an offense punishable by imprisonment of 6 months or less, or solely by a fine between $500 and $1,000

Removes the fine threshold of over $1,000 from the felony definition, making felonies based solely on imprisonment exceeding one year

Mandates that any reference to "one year" imprisonment in Rhode Island law shall be interpreted as 364 days

Takes effect upon passage
