Rhode Island House of Representatives commemorates the 182nd anniversary of Dominican Republic independence, originally achieved from Spain on February 27, 1844

February 27th is designated as Dominican Independence Day in Rhode Island, recognizing the approximately 54,000 Dominicans residing in the state

Acknowledges the Dominican Republic's historical significance as the seat of the original Spanish New World capital, including the first permanent European settlement, university, church, and cathedral in the Americas

Recognizes approximately 2.7 million Dominicans residing in the United States and their contributions to civic participation, business ownership, and military service

Directs the Secretary of State to transmit certified copies of the resolution to Dominican President Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona, Vice President Raquel Peña Rodriguez de Antuña, and the Dominican-American Association
