Insurers bidding to provide short-term disability insurance to Rhode Island state employees must offer coverage on a nondiscriminatory basis with respect to age, including employees 70 years of age or older

Policies cannot exclude eligible employees based solely on age, terminate coverage due to reaching a specified age, or impose different eligibility standards based on age

Applies only to disability income or short-term disability insurance policies issued through bids, contracts, or agreements with the State of Rhode Island

Does not require coverage for employees who are not actively employed or otherwise ineligible under state employment terms

Effective date: January 1, 2027
