Rhode Island House of Representatives expresses condolences on the passing of John Michael Skeffington, Jr. ("Jack") of Newport, a former state representative who served District 9 for five terms beginning with a special election victory on August 14, 1979

Skeffington was a third-generation funeral director who owned and operated Skeffington Funeral Home in Providence for more than 65 years after graduating from the New England Institute of Anatomy in 1961

Served in leadership roles including Chairman of the Rhode Island Highway Corporation and board member of RIPTA, Roger Williams Hospital, and the John E. Fogarty Foundation

Held presidencies of community organizations including the Rhode Island Elks, the Irish Kings, and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick

Secretary of State directed to transmit certified copies of the resolution to his companion Joyce Motte and sons John M. Skeffington III, Robert Skeffington, and Peter Skeffington
