Rhode Island House of Representatives officially celebrates March 2026 as "National Social Work Month" with the theme "Social Worker: Uplift. Defend. Transform."

Social workers are the largest professional group with mental health licenses in Rhode Island, with more than 6,000 practicing in the state.

Nationally, an estimated 770,000 to 790,000 social workers are practicing in 2026, with more than 50,000 expected to enter the profession over the next decade.

The resolution directs the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy to Rebekah Gewirtz, Executive Director of the National Association of Social Workers Rhode Island Chapter (NASW-RI).

The resolution was introduced on March 12, 2026 and passed by the House, recognizing social workers' contributions in schools, hospitals, military, child welfare, community centers, and government settings.
