Rhode Island Senate resolution expressing condolences on the passing of David R. Carlin, Jr., former Senate Majority Leader (1988-1990) who represented Newport, Jamestown, and Middletown

Carlin served on the Newport School Committee (1975-1980, 2001-2009), in the Rhode Island State Senate beginning in 1980, and was the 1992 Democratic nominee for Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District

Taught as a college professor at the Community College of Rhode Island for more than 40 years, retiring after his 80th birthday, with degrees from Providence College, University of Notre Dame, and University of Rhode Island

Authored seven books and numerous articles, receiving many writing awards throughout his career

Directs the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy of the resolution to his widow, Maureen Carlin, and family
