Rhode Island's 1% local meals and beverage tax would be reduced by 0.25% annually starting January 1, 2027

The tax would be completely eliminated by January 1, 2030

Revenue from this tax is currently distributed quarterly to cities and towns where meals and beverages are sold

The tax applies to all prepared food and beverages sold at restaurants, bars, cafeterias, food concessions, and similar eating and drinking establishments

Takes effect upon passage
