Creates new Chapter 71 under Rhode Island's Criminal Offenses title establishing the crime of "Disarming a Peace Officer"

Knowingly removing or attempting to remove a firearm, deadly weapon, or less-lethal weapon (including blunt impact, chemical, or conducted energy devices) from a peace officer constitutes a felony

Knowingly depriving or attempting to deprive a peace officer of a mobile communication device or radio used for official duty is also covered under the offense

Applies to peace officers as defined in § 12-7-21 and investigators of the Department of Attorney General appointed under § 42-9-8.1

Penalty is imprisonment of not less than 1 year and not more than 5 years; takes effect upon passage
