Creates a new felony offense for assault or battery upon sports officials (umpires, referees, linesmen, coaches) performing duties before, during, or after sporting events

Standard assault on a sports official carries up to 3 years imprisonment and/or up to $3,000 fine

Assault causing serious bodily injury (substantial risk of death, protracted impairment, or serious disfigurement) carries 3-20 years imprisonment and/or up to $10,000 fine

Mandatory restitution to the victim required for all convictions, plus up to 500 hours of community service and/or violence/substance abuse counseling; courts cannot waive restitution requirements

Covers all organized athletics including school sports, youth leagues, adult leagues, community programs, and semi-professional/professional events
