Veterans with a disability rating from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, or their caregivers, are exempt from all building fees for home modifications required to accommodate the veteran's disability, including permit fees, plan review fees, inspection fees, and reinspection fees.

Veterans or caregivers must provide proof of a VA disability rating and attest that the improvements are required to accommodate the veteran's disability.

Standard permit application requirements still apply; the exemption covers only fees, not the obligation to submit applications and paperwork for building permits.

Local home rule ordinances may not regulate building fees in a manner inconsistent with this chapter, ensuring statewide uniformity.

The act takes effect upon passage.
